As a nonprofit milk bank, we make it simple to buy breast milk online: we collect milk from generous donors, pasteurize and test every batch, and distribute it to babies all across the country. About 80-90% of the milk we distribute goes to hospitals, including neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and well-baby units. Babies who receive the milk in the hospital may be premature or have severe illnesses and need human milk to thrive.
The other 10-20% of our pasteurized donor human milk goes directly to outpatient families. Many of these families need a little bit of milk to feed their baby until their own milk comes in (we call this “bridge milk”). Others struggle with their own supply for a myriad of reasons, or don’t have access to a direct supply, as in cases of adoption and surrogacy.
